Bras For Men
For centuries now, the concept of wearing a bra walked hand in hand with being a woman. Well times they are a-changing. News reports around the world are talking about a Japanese online retailer that's selling bras for cross-dressing men. Apparently, they have been flying off the shelves: 300 male bras have been purchased at $30 a pop in just under two weeks.
It looks like more and more men are interested in bras, and one of the things that they seem to request is that the bra be able to be worn discreetly under men's clothing. Available in black, pink, and white, the male bra is still not quite an easy sell for the male population at large. But it's clearly a sign of evolving times.
One of the hottest potential markets for the male bra, though, is not the cross-dressers. It's the overweight male population. Many of them are affected with what is called "man-boobs" and would love to get those babies under control. For them, bras made specifically for men could probably turn out to be quite handy.
One of the main things the bras for men industry could do to accelerate acceptance and skyrocket sales would be to forego all the wide range of terms and types of bras that's characteristics of the female bra industry and go with a simple, one- or two-design approach. The focus here would be to make sure the product gets known out there and that prospective buyers are not inundated with a wide array of choices.
The second thing to do to increase sales of male bras would be to set up a strong online presence. We would imagine that most of the people who would adopt the male bra would not be comfortable walking into a store and say "I'm looking for bras for men". That's where a strong online presence would be beneficial, just like it is for the adult toys industry.
Finally, just like bras for women are sold just about everywhere and are advertised all the time, bras for men will have to be advertised everywhere and put on display in stores, in order to gain mainstream acceptance; let's also not forget the price factor, there will have to be cheap bras for men. Then, it will move from being a novelty to being a niche. If cosmetics for men and thongs for men are any indication, bras for men should be a very profitable niche.
